Even in a rote story, with prosaic direction from Holmes, the lead performances ring true.
With her well-meaning desire to create an inspirational story of survival and redemption, Holmes has kept the entire film extremely low-stakes.

Katie Holmes takes an interesting Boone script and crafts a somewhat slow but surprisingly good film. The pacing is very slow but the events are quite solid and I lived through some of the events depicted, housing crash. Katie Holmes gives a very central performance and one I have never seen from her. The slow pace may put others off but I like these types of drama films and the relationship between the mother and daughter is the glue holding this one together. Great Netflix discovery and another underrated discovery. 13-05-2017.
